Elementary Physical Elementary Instructor

 

JOB GOAL                                           

 

Instructs students in physical education activities in a school; teaches individual and team sports, physical fitness, rhythms and dance.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Holds a bachelor’s degree in Education and a valid Tennessee teacher's license with appropriate endorsement;
  • Has strong written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal skills; and
  • Meets health and physical requirements.

EVALUATION                    

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of state law and the Board’s policy on evaluation of the Director of Schools.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Plans and teaches comprehensive physical education.
  2. Plans curriculum and prepares lessons and other materials, considering factors such as individual needs, abilities, learning levels, and physical limitations of students;
  3. Organizes, leads, instructs, and referees indoor and outdoor games or athletic activities;
  4. Instructs individuals or groups in beginning or advanced calisthenics or corrective exercises, determining type and level of difficulty;
  5. Applies knowledge of sports physiology and corrective techniques; 
  6. Teaches and demonstrates use of apparatus and equipment;
  7. Arranges and adjusts equipment utilized by students;
  8. Teaches physical education to physically, mentally, or emotionally disabled students, adapting teaching techniques and methods of instruction to meet individual needs of students;
  9. Ensures students are dressed appropriately for activities;
  10. Monitors locker rooms, dressing areas, and showers to ensure appropriate behavior; 
  11. Evaluates student progress on a regular basis;
  12. Issues reports to inform parents of student progress;
  13. Keeps attendance and grade records as required by the board of education;
  14. Observes students to detect signs of ill health or emotional disturbance and reports, as appropriate;
  15. Supervises in the halls and during assemblies and programs, as assigned;
  16. Fosters cooperative social behavior; 
  17. Reports to the principal any reasonable suspicion that a student's health or welfare has been or appears to have been harmed as a result of abuse or neglect;
  18. Represents the school and the community in a positive manner;
  19. Meets assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated;
  20. Participates in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops;  
  21. Complies with board policies, school rules, and administrative regulations; and
  22. Performs other work-related duties as assigned.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This job may require lifting or carrying of objects that exceed fifty (50) pounds, with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to twenty-five (25) pounds.  Other physical demands that may be required are as follows:

  7. Climbing

  6. Color Discrimination: The ability to perceive or to recognize similarities or differences in colors or shades or other values of the same colors.
