High School Instructional Supervisor 

 

JOB GOAL

Under limited leadership, performs a variety of supervisory and administrative tasks to provide leadership and coordination of curricular and instructional programs across all organizational levels. Employee is responsible for supporting and coordinating the efforts of principals as well as teachers. The role involves coordinating English, Reading Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies and all other courses offered K – 12. The employee is also responsible for planning and implementing professional development related to curriculum, instruction, and student achievement.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Holds a valid Tennessee teacher's license with administrative endorsement; Has a minimum of a master's degree;  Has administrative or supervisory experience; and Meets health and physical requirements.

SCHEDULE 260 Day  

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Leads the process of creating and revising curriculum guides that are inclusive of pacing, scope, sequence, instructional strategies, assessment, and aligning resources and linkage to TN state standards and Common Core;
  • Initiates, integrates, and oversees curricular and instructional programs designed to improve instruction and student achievement, providing curricular and instructional support for teachers and administrators;
  • Monitors content relevance and effectiveness of instructional materials and its alignment to state standards;
  • Serves as the chairperson or a member of district-wide planning teams, which includes but is not limited to, Discipline Committee, Professional Development Committee,  Collaborative Conferencing, Textbook Committee, and Calendar Committee;
  • Reviews, recommends, procures, and creates classroom materials and resources for classroom use;
  • Implements and coordinates the use of district level formative assessments;
  • Creates, procures, develops, and delivers professional development opportunities that align with the district and/or school mission’s and goals;
  • Assists in developing county-wide strategic plans for improving student achievement as well as assisting principals with school-wide strategic plans;
  • Supervises and evaluates Instructional Coaches;
  • Supervises and evaluates Gifted & Talented Program;
  • Stays abreast of current educational developments and participates in state and regional planning meetings;
  • Conducts Principal Observations in alignment with the TEAM evaluation system;  
  • Coordinates and leads the annual textbook committee to adopt books in accordance with the state department timeline and guidelines; Proposes budgetary needs for county-wide textbook needs;
  • Maintains open communication with all levels of the school system hierarchy and serves as a liaison  between schools and the various departments within the Administrative and Training Complex (ATC); and 
  • Assumes other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This job may require lifting or carrying of objects that exceed fifty (50) pounds, with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to twenty-five (25) pounds. Other physical demands that may be required are as follows: pushing and/or pulling, stooping and/or kneeling, reaching and/or handling, talking, hearing, seeing, and climbing.
